ATN’s International Research Base Strengthens with Brazil Signing

In a move that aims to further strengthen key international research ties, The Australian Technology Network of Universities (ATN) has become the first Australian university grouping to sign an agreement with the Brazilian government research agency FAPESP.

Young Uni Top 100 confirms ATN’s Rapid Rise

The recently released Times Higher Education (THE) Top 100 universities under 50 years of age, provides further confirmation that the ATN packs a serious international punch when it comes to university performance.  Four ATN universities appear in the THE Top 100 rankings, including Queensland University of Technology as the leading Australian institution at 26, and University of South Australia registering the second highest increase in the Top 100, jumping 17 places to number 48 on the list.

All have, in some way, been underpinned by research, which has been undertaken in our nation’s universities.   With 60% of Australia’s research taking place in Universities, taxpayers deserve to see and know how their dollars are being spent for their benefit, and our Government needs to understand why a required level of University research  funding isn’t a budget optional, but an absolute essential.

 Curtin to host the National Centre for Student Equity

ATN member Curtin University has been successful in securing the National Centre for Student Equity in Higher Education (NCSEHE).  Formerly hosted by the University of South Australia, the National Centre officially moved to Curtin in June this year. The Centre’s Board, chaired by the Hon. Fred Chaney AO, met for the first time recently.  Supported by a federally funded grant and  Curtin’s own resources, the Centre employs its own staff and has already enrolled two PhD students who commenced their studies in June.
