Strong support for national approach to VET regulations
The National Skills Standards Council (NSSC) says submissions to its consultation paper on the regulation of the standards of VET affirmed strong support for change and the need to have clearer, user-friendly standards, with consistent interpretation and application across the VET sector. The NSSC released a list of the 114 submissions lodged by industry organisations and individuals.
Skills Authority rejects registration of notorious training company
The Australian Skills Quality Authority (ASQA) has rejected an application to renew registration for Pow Wow Training. ASQA conducted a comprehensive audit of Pow Wow Training’s operations, after the private training company was investigated by ABC’s 7:30 for irregular training practices.
India leadership program rated great success by all participants
Wednesday 19 September saw the conclusion of a three-week leadership program for 18 senior vocational education leaders from India. The program evaluations indicated a very high satisfaction rating for all aspects of the program which included workshops, lectures, attendance at the TDA National conference, and placements in three TAFE institutes in central Perth.
Backlash over TAFE cuts continue
Rallies against TAFE funding cuts continued last week, with 1,500 TAFE supporters protesting in Victoria. Professor Leesa Wheelahan, from the LH Martin Institute in Melbourne, warned the cuts would have widespread impact.
Government hosting forum on Australian Skills Centres of Excellence
The Department of Industry, Innovation, Science, Research and Tertiary Education (DIISRTE) is holding a forum to discuss the development of three Australian Skills Centres of Excellence. The Federal Government will invest $18.1 million over four years to establish three centres, in partnership with industry and training organisations.
TDA to play key role as UNESCO revitalises UNEVOC network
TDA has been designated as a coordinating centre for one of thirteen international regions which make up the UNEVOC network. Along with NCVER, TDA will coordinate and support the activities of UNEVOC centres in the Pacific Islands cluster.
Challenger wins top WA training award
The Challenger Institute of Technology has been named Western Australia’s best large training provider at the WA Training Awards.
Special tribute as David Endean retires
TDA offers a special tribute to David Endean who recently retired after thirty years of service to TAFE. David provided outstanding leadership at Holmesglen Institute where he formed part of an executive team which firmly established Holmesglen as one of the first truly international TAFE institutes.
Help develop the E-Scan
The Transport and Logistics Industry Skills Council (TLISC) is urging industry stakeholders to help inform the development of the 2013 Transport and Logistics Environmental Scan (E-Scan).
Regional development conference
The conference program is now available for the one-day Strategic Regional Leadership Conference in Port Macquarie on Friday, 26th October. This conference is aimed at inspiring leadership in Government, Industry and the Community to embrace change and by learning from experts and field practitioners to generate and facilitate strategies aimed at identifying gaps and capitalising on opportunities.
