6/08/2012 There were significant changes announced by the State Government’s ‘Refocusing the VET Sector’ policy. As you know we are working extremely hard to determine how we can best manage the impact of a loss of $30M in government funding for 2013 and beyond. On the 19 July 2012 our Board Chair, David Willersdorf received a letter from Minister Hall. This letter set out his expectations of Chisholm and the other 13 stand alone TAFE institutes, as publically owned organisations, as we refocus our activities during the remainder of 2012 and for 2013. This week in Campus Review – 6 August 2012
Spintronics opens up new possibilities in computing Spintronics is one of the newest branches of science – a multi-disciplinary field combining materials science, engineering and microscopy – which offers “spectacular” potential for computer processors and data storage - provided a host of technical problems can be solved. At its most fundamental level, spintronics involves imparting quantum-physical “spin” on electrons and using that as a means of storing and retrieving binary data. Because spin is a quantum variable (one that’s unrelated to the electron’s intrinsic orbital motion), it’s also possible – hypothetically – to use superposition to store a vast … [Read more...]
Protests against TAFE cuts intensify
