Indefinite strike at CAE

NTEU News    |   26 November 2013 Staff at Melbourne’s Centre for Adult Education (CAE) have been on an indefinite strike since Monday 18 November 2013. The National Tertiary Education Union (NTEU) says it has been bargaining with management representatives for a new enterprise agreement since February 2011 and staff have not had a pay increase since May 2010.  An agreement was reached at the end of 2011, but, according to the NTEU, six months later the CAE reneged on the agreement, “after interference by the state government.” A new agreement was reached at the end of 2012 and again they reneged on it, and in June this year they put over 30 cuts to employment conditions on the … [Read more...]

Industrial action at Sydney and UNE

NTEU Newsroom   |     16 January 2013 Staff at the University of Sydney and the University of New England will vote in the next month over industrial action on enterprise bargaining, following successful applications to Fair Work Australia this morning by the National Tertiary Education Union (NTEU).  Neither university contested the union’s applications for protected industrial action ballots. Maddocks appointed to negotiate UWS enterprise agreement

NTEU Newsroom    |     29 January 2013 The University of Western Sydney Branch of the NTEU has expressed surprise at the appointment of Maddocks, a corporate law firm, to negotiate the new academic and general staff enterprise agreements on behalf of UWS Management.  Jan Falloon, NTEU UWS Branch President, said the union questions the logic of outsourcing yet another core business of the university to outside contractors, at a time of great hardship within schools and units at UWS.
