6 May 2013 | The advertisements coincide with the release of a public survey showing overwhelming support for increased funding and strong awareness of the importance of university education for our future prosperity.
The survey of 800 Australian voters, undertaken by Enterprise Marketing and Research Services, on behalf of Universities Australia shows that:
- 82% agree cutting public funding for universities could threaten Australia’s future.
- 87 % support an increase in Federal Government funding for universities.
- 96% agree our universities are important for providing the skills and knowledge for tomorrow.
- 95% agree that universities are an opportunity for young Australians to improve their lives.
- At 71%, ‘Australian universities’ are equal with ‘primary schools’ as having the highest favourability of any part of the education system.
Universities Australia’s chief executive, Belinda Robinson says the research clearly shows that most people are not only opposed to funding cuts but overwhelmingly support an increase in university investment.
