New case studies highlight TAFE industry partnerships
New paradigms in TAFE’s approach to the delivery of training to industry will be unveiled at a special business briefing in Sydney today.
A series of five case studies was commissioned by TAFE Directors Australia (TDA), involving conversations with industry leaders, conducted by leading VET researcher and academic, Dr John Mitchell from John Mitchell & Associates.
The studies highlight examples of tailored approaches by TAFE Institutes in delivering technical and vocational education.
The Chief Executive Officer of TDA, Martin Riordan, said Reinventing Service Delivery will be launched in Sydney tonight by the Chair of the NSW TAFE Commission and Chief Executive of the Australian National Retailers Association, Ms Margy Osmond.
The Australian Financial Review says the report shows how TAFE is responding to industry needs, modelling leading-edge practices and meeting goals set by industry and the government.

Help review Diploma qualifications in Abu Dhabi
The Commission for Academic Accreditation (CAA) is seeking a TAFE member to partake in a team to review a new program with the Abu Dhabi Vocational Education and Training Council (ADVETI).
The CAA is looking to accredit a Diploma in Accounting Practice to be offered by ADVETI. ADVETI offers Diplomas and Higher Diplomas to students in the United Arab Emirates, most of which are modelled on qualifications offered by TAFE NSW.
To review the program, the CAA will appoint an External Review Team of two subject specialists.
Preferably the candidate will not be from TAFE NSW, and will have experience in managing a similar Diploma or Higher Diploma program in a TAFE institute.
The CAA offers External Review Team members round trip air transport between the country of origin and the United Arab Emirates (business class for sectors outside the country of origin), accommodation in five-star hotels, a per diem allowance of AED 400 (approximately AUD $105) for each day of the visit, and local transport throughout the visit. In addition, an honorarium of US $600 for each day of the visit is paid. We anticipate that this visit will require four days, the first of which is a day for preparation.

Government blocks second University-TAFE deal
The Federal government has reportedly blocked a franchise agreement between Holmesglen Institute and Charles Sturt University (CSU) that was designed to deliver qualifications in the area of dentistry, combating skills shortages in rural and regional areas.
As part of the proposed degree offer, Holmesglen was to deliver the first two years of a Bachelor Degree in oral health, before the students transferred to CSU to complete their final year at the university’s specialised dental school.
The degree was reliant on Commonwealth HECS funding.
This follows the recent block of a deal between the University of Canberra and Holmesglen, despite former Tertiary Education and Skills Minister, Chris Evans, stating the government would expand commonwealth supported places to TAFEs.
