Australian Financial Review    |   12 August 2013 Australian universities perform far below the world’s best in attracting research money from business, according to a new innovation index. The index, produced by Times Higher Education from its world university rankings data, says Australia places 15th in the world and is outranked by key Asian nations in the amount of research money its universities get from industry. South Korea and Singapore lead the table, with the average per annum gained from this source by academics worth $US97,900 ($A106,262) and $US84,500 respectively. EIF “loses its buzz” Following excoriating criticism by Phil Clark, chair of the Education Investment Fund (EIF) advisory board, that the EIF has “lost its way”, higher education minister Craig Emerson has indicated through a spokesperson  there would be a “major announcement” related to the Education Investment Fund this week.  Earlier this week, Clark said government inertia and media-driven policy had derailed the EIF, which was set up to fund large-scale, nation-building tertiary education and research infrastructure....[READ MORE].... UA demands “no more cuts”

Research cuts mean saving cash only to ignore the future

In the case of the Future Fellowship Scheme there’s a lot at risk.
