The last week has seen some important events in the tertiary education sector.The Council of Australia Governments (COAG) Industry and Skills Council met in Melbourne on 8 May for its third meeting. The Council held separate industry and skills sessions. The industry session was chaired by the Hon Ian Macfarlane MP, Government Minister for Industry and Science. Hundreds of Vocation qualifications recalled

WorldSkills competition attracts the nation’s best Perth hosted two major events – the Skills West Expo and the WorldSkills Australia national competition, finishing on Saturday. Skills West Expo brought together industry, employers, trainers and jobseekers to promote a range of career pathways as well as training and career opportunities. The WorldSkills Australia national competition attracted more than 400 of the nation’s best apprentices and trainees. Australian Qualifications Framework Council disbanded
19 September 2014 ……………………………………………………………………………………………………… The Australian Qualifications Framework Council, which was responsible for governance of the Australian Qualifications Framework, has been disbanded. No public announcement was made. ……………………………………………………………………………………………….......…… The council was originally established to deliver a review of the AQF, which culminated in the strengthened AQF. With this work completed, the government says it was timely to reconsider the role of the council. Apprenticeship centres to be axed in VET shake-up The federal government is today expected to announce the scrapping of Australian Apprenticeships Centres as part of a wide-ranging overhaul of the VET system, according to a report in The Australian. Young workers will be offered new training schemes that are shaped by employers in a move designed to more closely link training with work.
