Holmesglen looks for a training hospital on-campus

The Age    |    19 October 2012 Having done a deal with the University of Canberra (UC) to set up a UC branch at it’s Chadstone campus,  Holmesglen TAFE is now looking to  share a campus with a hospital in a plan to secure its future and expand its health faculty.   Holmesglen chief executive Bruce Mackenzie says a private health provider is conducting a feasibility study on building a hospital at one of its campuses but he declined to name the health provider. Meanwhile Charles Sturt University will offer dental hygiene and oral therapy courses at the Chadstone campus from next year. States could scuttle intern deal

The Australian    |     28 September 2012 The Commonwealth government has offered $10 million during emergency talks to find internships for an estimated 180 international medical students who are expected to graduate this year.  The graduates can’t practise or continue their medical training until they’ve completed the one-year internships. The Commonwealth has offered the one-off funding to create an extra 100 placements next year, provided the states fund the other 80 places and the students commit to work in regional areas once they’re registered. University of Melbourne Medical School celebrates 150 years

SUNDAY AGE 4 MARCH 2012 The University of Melbourne Medical School was founded in 1862, opening its doors to the first Australian medical students on 3 March when William Carey Rees, Patrick Moloney and Alexander Mackie attended the first class, a chemistry lecture, given by John Macadam in his own laboratory.
