UQ staff to strike

10 March 2014 ………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………… NTEU members at the University of Queensland (UQ) will strike on 11 March for better pay and conditions. ………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………… NTEU UQ Branch President, Associate Professor Andrew Bonnell, said that the University languishes behind others when it came to pay, workloads, and indigenous employment.  He said UQ is in the top three universities in Australia on most indicators but ranks 23rdfor pay and that, despite student numbers having risen by 20% over 5 years, there has been no increase in teaching staff. EBAs: Monash settle – Swinburne, Macquarie and UQ unsettled

10 March 2014 ………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………… The National Tertiary Education Union (NTEU) and Monash University have reached in-principle agreement on a new Enterprise Bargaining Agreement (EBA) , following strike action on 3 March, while NTEU and Swinburne appear headed to court. Indefinite strike at CAE

NTEU News    |   26 November 2013 Staff at Melbourne’s Centre for Adult Education (CAE) have been on an indefinite strike since Monday 18 November 2013. The National Tertiary Education Union (NTEU) says it has been bargaining with management representatives for a new enterprise agreement since February 2011 and staff have not had a pay increase since May 2010.  An agreement was reached at the end of 2011, but, according to the NTEU, six months later the CAE reneged on the agreement, “after interference by the state government.” A new agreement was reached at the end of 2012 and again they reneged on it, and in June this year they put over 30 cuts to employment conditions on the … [Read more...]

Melbourne staff to strike over EBA, JCU staff reject pay deal

NTEU News     |     24 September 2013 National Tertiary Education Union members at the University of Melbourne will begin a 24-hour strike from noon Wednesday 25 September, to noon Thursday 26 September. The  union says the strike is in response to senior management’s "aggressive approach in enterprise bargaining negotiations seeking to strip away many current working conditions". According to the NTEU, the University is insisting that professional staff redundancy payments be cut for the majority of professional staff into the future and has given no serious ground on the key workloads and jobs security elements of our claims. Industrial conflict rages across the sector as the National Tertiary Education Union (NTEU) battles it out with universities over the terms of a new Enterprise Bargaining Agreement. The NTEU scored a tactical victory on 28 July over an application by Monash University to the Fair Work Commission (FWC) for the suspension of protected industrial action, notably the withholding of assessment results, on the grounds that it endangered the health or  welfare of students.   FWC Vice President Lawler found that the results ban did not pose a significant threat to student health or welfare as the NTEU exemptions process operates to prevent such harm. Call for Fair Work Act to be amended over UWS bargaining

NTEU News     |      11 July 2013 The National Tertiary Education Union (NTEU) is appealing to Bill Shorten, the Minister for Employment and Workplace Relations, to amend the Fair Work Act, following the failure of the Fair Work Commission on10 July to make a decision regarding a union ballot to take protected industrial action at the University of Western Sydney (UWS). Vice-President Catanzariti reserved his decision on a protected action ballot application.
