Applications from 2015 WA Certificate of Education (WACE) students showed a significant increase over 2014 (following the ‘half cohort’ last year) and a 6% increase over 2013. Offers made to 2015 WACE applicants are up 59% on last year, and 7% on 2013/2014, with 93% of those who applied receiving an offer (91% last year).

The decrease in non-WA Year 12 applications (including interstate and mature-age applicants) observed for several years has slowed, with a 3.5% decrease compared to a 13.4% drop the year before.

Compared with last year, the total number of offers made has increased by 36%, returning to numbers similar to those in 2013/2014.  A greater percentage of applicants were successful in securing an offer (88% of all applicants, compared to 85% last year).

The Executive Officer of the Tertiary Institutions Service Centre (TISC), Mr Wayne Betts, said that of the 88% of applicants who had received an offer, over 76% had been made a first preference offer (78% last year).

Mr Betts said it was expected that most applicants would accept their offer. However, there is an opportunity for students who weren’t offered their first preference to reserve that offer through to the second round, and be considered for a higher preference in the second round via a ‘safety net’ procedure. The ‘safety net’ was also available to applicants who moved their first preference offer further down their preferences in the hope of being offered something different in second round. Applicants can rearrange preferences or add new courses to their preferences up to 25 January. There are also still opportunities for anyone who has not yet applied for a university place. Most courses are still open and TISC will take applications until 25 January.

Those who are qualified for a place but are unsuccessful in the main round will automatically be reconsidered in the second round of offers.

Cut off ranks for main round are also on the TISC website.
