NSCC News | 12 March 2013 John Dawkins, chair of the National Skills Standards Council (NSSC), says a new "Australian Vocational Qualifications System" is needed to protect the economy from a "failure in confidence" in qualifications. The NSSC proposes replacing the current approach of registering colleges with a new licensing system, starting with 18-month provisional licences. Victorian TAFE transition plans – $50 mill pa funding
ABC News | 12 March 2013 The Victorian government is convening stakeholder meetings through today explain the outcomes of the TAFE transitions planning process. ABC News reports that the government will provide an additional $200 million for the state's TAFEs over the next four years, to be spent on technology and new teaching systems and to provide more courses and greater training opportunities. Premier Denis Napthine has also released the report of an independent TAFE review, led by Dr Ken Latta, who met TAFE representatives and considered stakeholder submissions over six months. National Workforce Development Strategy The Australian Workforce and Productivity Agency’s (AWPA) latest workforce development strategy, released on Friday, has nominated TAFE as the bedrock of the national VET system and recommended a three per cent per year increase in skills funding to 2025. The Agency emphasised the importance of creating flexible pathways between VET and Higher Education, and encouraged a review of the interface between the sectors. It also cited disappointing progress in the provision of Commonwealth-supported places for degrees awarded by the VET sector.
