Reports of the demise of the University of Canberra (UC) and Holmesglen Institute of TAFE collaboration project have obviously been much exaggerated.
In October last year it was announced with some fanfare that UC would establish a branch campus in Melbourne from 2013, co-locating with Holmesglen Institute of TAFE. The plan involved eleven UC courses being offered offered in Melbourne fto be delivered alongside existing Holmesglen degrees.
Holmesglen degrees in hospitality management, fashion, screen production, executive administration and marketing management will be rebadged as UC degrees, giving Holmesglen access to commonwealth higher education funding.
Somewhere along the way, the plan appeared to have come unstuck and a few weeks ago it was reported that the whole project had been knocked on the head by then Commonwealth minister Chris Evans.
However, we understand that initial UC offerings have commenced at Holmesglen and more are to come.
For the record, The Scan thinks the UC-Holmesglen hook-up is a potentially strong collaboration project and worth supporting.
