The photos have gone somewhere – we’ll try and find them!
Australia Day seems to have passed me by over the years. I set off this morning at 9.30 for coffee on Acland St and to get a few essential supplies. Almost immediately I was captured by Australia Day celebrations. It began with a Citizenship Ceremony in the St Kilda Botanic Gardens, took in Federation Square, various trams trips…I didn’t get home until 5 o’clock. It was quite an extraordinary experience, for the enthusiasm and good will people displayed and what it showed about the diversity of the Australian community. And anyone thinking about changing the Australian flag anytime soon, better think again: it was everywhere. Let’s just settle on becoming a republic. These photos aren’t great – they were all taken on my mobile phone – but they give flavour of the day. Thanks to all those people who agreed to their photos being taken , including Iris, Marie, Dornying, Anna and Phillip.
