WA medical research brain drain?
Campus Review | 11 December 2012 West Australian researchers say they are being treated unfairly under the national medical funding system, in which their share has dropped markedly in the past decade. In the latest round of grants from the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC), the country’s biggest funding source of health and medical research and development, WA received only 5.5% of the total funds available, down from 8% in 2002. Its $35.7 million share of the $652 million handed out was less than what five universities in NSW, Victoria and Queensland each received.
