The Australian    |     5 December 2012 Australian Bureau of Statistics figures reveal the proportion of employed graduates has risen since universities embarked on their latest phase of expansion. But the proportion of graduates in professional and managerial positions has declined.   The figures lend weight to speculation that degrees are becoming entry tickets into the workforce rather than marks of distinction. Group of Eight    |    4 December 2012 Commonwealth budget papers show that total expenditure’ on universities has risen from $8 billion in 2007 to nearly $12 billion in 2010, with further growth to $14 billon predicted by 2013. Commonwealth Grant Scheme (CGS) funding has risen from $3.5 billion in 2007 to $4.8 billion in 2010, with a further budgeted increase to $6.8 billion by 2015.
