TEDx comes to North Sydney

Northern Sydney Institute has been granted the only tertiary vocational TEDx license in the Southern Hemisphere, and will host its first TEDx event in a new state-of-the-art facility in August.   The Institute has advised that under the terms of the agreement, NSI will host “TEDx Northern Sydney Institute: This Way Up” on 28 August. TEDx are local, independent events that operate under the TED format, encouraging innovative people to share their ideas. Sydney Uni pulls plug on Dalai Lama

ABC 7.30    |      17 April  2013 Sydney University is under fire after aalegedly pulling the plug on a planned speaking event by the Dalai Lama. Students at Sydney University scored a major coup when the Tibetan spiritual leader agreed to speak at their campus during his upcoming short visit to Sydney in June. But the ABC's 7.30 has obtained emails revealing the university, which has close links to China, went to great lengths to wash its hands of the iconic monk. Grattan quits The Age to join University of Canberra

First, I make a point of addressing them as “philosophers” – a bit cheesy, but hopefully it encourages active learning. Secondly, I say something like this: “I’m sure you’ve heard the expression ‘everyone is entitled to their opinion.’ Perhaps you’ve even said it yourself, maybe to head off an argument or bring one to a close. UTAS Newsroom   31 August 2012 More than 40 talented young people from Tasmania and around Australia will come together from Monday 3 September 2012 for an Australian and possibly world first: the inaugural WotOpera Camp at the University of Tasmania’s Conservatorium of Music in Hobart. New tools to facilitate industry-university engagement
